Todd Dorman grew up in Belmond in North Central Iowa and earned a journalism degree at Drake University. His first newspaper jobs were as a sports part-timer at The Des Moines register as a college student and as an intern for The Gazette’s Des Moines Bureau. He was sports editor at the Iowa Falls Times-Citizen, a city hall reporter and news editor at the Fort Dodge Messenger and a local politics and Statehouse reporter for the Sioux City Journal. He also covered the Legislature and state government for Lee Enterprises newspapers in the Quad-Cities, Mason City, Muscatine, Ottumwa, Waterloo and Sioux City, and served four years as bureau chief. He became an opinion columnist for The Gazette in 2007 and has been editor of the Insight section since 2018.
