    Maura Casey worked as an opinion writer for four newspapers, including The New York Times. In a journalism career that spanned 35 years, she won 45 state, national and regional awards.

    She is the author of a book, “Saving Ellen: A Memoir of Hope and Recovery,” released by Skyhorse Publishing in 2025.

    She is also on Substack, writing a weekly column called Casey’s Catch, with nearly 4,000 subscribers.

    She has a husband that she still likes after 42 years, two adult children, and two perfect granddaughters. Her only connection to Iowa is Casey, Iowa, which her great-great grandfather named and whose picture is prominently displayed in town. She visits during every trip to Okoboji and recommends the ice cream at Casey’s Creamery.
