Phoebe Wall Howard

Investigative Reporter

Workshops: 1.Making Liver and Onions Palatable. 2. Lazy Use of Language and Rethinking How We Use Words.

Phoebe Wall Howard is a national award-winning journalist who delivers hard-hitting news, textured feature stories, and enterprise profiles and analysis. She has earned a reputation for transforming boring subjects into riveting material, often getting hilarious reader letters from around the country. She finds unusual story angles and subjects, ranging from what Aretha Franklin wore in her casket (and changed multiple times) to the link between pastry chef skills and corporate success.

Phoebe brings skill to headline writing and language that’s unique and compelling. Since leaving the Detroit Free Press, she has built a loyal following on Substack in addition to her freelance magazine work.

Her areas of expertise include transportation, organized labor, automotive, competitive sailing and criminal justice. Note: She avoids people who leave shopping carts in parking spaces at the grocery store.
