Rekha Basu is a syndicated columnist born in India, raised in Libya, Egypt, Thailand, New Delhi, New York, and transplanted to Iowa. She’s a parent, widow, author, progressive, feminist, and global citizen. She’s worked as a reporter, editorial writer, and columnist at newspapers in New York, Florida and Iowa.
She’s also made TV guest appearances with Tom Brokaw, Rachel Maddow, Brooke Baldwin, Carol Costello, Erin Burnett, Gwen Ifill, and CNN International’s Richard Quest. She’s moderated “Smart Talk” women’s lecture series at Des Moines Civic Center.
Her book, “Finding Her Voice,” is a compilation of her Des Moines Register columns on women.
Rekha holds a MS in journalism from Columbia University, a MA in political economy from Goddard-Cambridge Graduate School, a BA in sociology from Brandeis University, and an honorary doctorate of humane letters from Grinnell College.
“Writing for Change.” In this workshop, Rekha Basu will show you how to use your words and insights to make people aware of and concerned about human rights, justice, global affairs, immigration policies, racial and gender imbalances and more, and offer them avenues for action.
“First-person Commentary.” Rekha Basu will show you how to use your own unique life experiences to connect readers with current events in a personal way because the personal is political and vice-versa.
